VIGIL, as well as
being a Cilla Vee Life Arts production, is a project affiliated with
Re-Cultivating Compassion. Founded in 2019 by Robyn Thomas, Markus Berger and
myself, RCC is a virtual and actual symposium of creatives whose practice
incorporates a commitment to compassion.
Day 6 – Hand Washing
Today my RCC partner
Robyn and her husband came from Providence. My first official visitors!
For most of the
day, my sound-making efforts were thwarted by deafening construction noises
from next door! At least I got a set-up figured out and will re-visit this
theme again.

Day 11 – Cocoon
More visitors!
Fellow Ashevillian Cheryl Eugenia came with Chad Becker.
I had my favorite
compliment today. Young kid on a bike: “Bro … That’s sick!” I also love
Cheryl’s description: “You look like a Virgin Mary hospital patient.
These prayers for
healing were gathered from a number of sources. Some I found on-line. Other
contributions from my cousin-in-law the Reverend Kate Jamie – and my Life-Art
mentor Linda Mary Montano.

Day 14 – Plants
Serendipitously,
this morning the park staff were pruning branches from the trees nearby, so I
dragged some into the gallery to give volume to the plant installation. I had
arrived extra early in order to gather the park flora.
Visitors today.
Fred Hatt with another artist friend of ours, Kayoko Nakajima.
