SPIRITUAL WEEKEND INTENSIVE

Ceremonial garb on loan from Stina Anderson - ARTERIES

… and the Dead”

Earlier in the pandemic this year I was talking with my dear friend and artistic collaborator Elisa Faires, who has a spiritual practice of guiding souls. She talked about confused souls of recently deceased Corona virus victims. Perhaps their last days were in a coma. On a ventilator, unconscious. Unable to say “goodbye” to loved ones. Not even realizing they have slipped away from their mortality. Final conscious memories of trauma, panic, breathlessness. She guides them into the light.

It was this conversation that inspired my vigil.

At sunset I opened up the gallery doors for the sound to ring out.

2 weeks in.

Healing rituals and prayers have been instituted (put into operation) and their purpose established (set up to endure).

The space is ready.

I am ready.

Yesterday, Sound resonated in the environment. Clearing blockages and preparing the way.

Today we focus in on what’s crucial.

My intention for this day was to wander with the souls and share their nether world. On commencing research I stumble across “Operation Wandering Soul” – a campaign exercised by US forces during the Vietnam War. This brings a new twist of intensity into the day’s performance prayer.

Friend and collaborator, percussionist Michael Evans came to visit today.

(“Operation Wandering Soul” – 1970. Vietnam War. US engineers created “Ghost Tape Number 10” to instill fear in Vietnamese soldiers, causing them to flee. The eerie sounds and voices played on their cultural belief that the dead must be buried in their homeland, or wander eternally in suffering.)

A day dedicated to guiding lost souls into the light.

Elisa and her mother Trish Face Time with me on-line. In prayer, we focus on recent Corona virus deaths in my location. Elisa and Trish have many insights. I realize that these souls are just regular people. Mostly elderly. New Yorkers. Jewish, Hispanic. People who don’t want to leave their dogs. It is the role of angels to escort souls to the Divine. We prayed for the Arch Angel Michael to do his job!
